The new travel buzz word is NEXUS. When the Border Agent recommended I apply to save time in the line ups, I decided to do it. The on line information and application was easy to use, very similar to applying for a passport. The interview is held at the Customs and Border office in our Ottawa Airport. The personnel were very helpful and the whole process was extremely efficient. Then it came time to try out my NEXUS status. To my delight it can also be used both in domestic and international air terminals. This meant completely bypassing the Airport Security (CATSA) line ups (domestic only) and Custom international line ups, both ways. You are still screened thru security; however it is so much faster as it has its own designated area. I felt like I was one of the airline crew, the ones we used watch breeze thru the line ups with envy.

I highly recommend applying and in long run it will improve the airport security procedures as these NEXUS card holders have been thoroughly pre-screened. NEXUS may also be used for land and marine crossings. Website:
