Bill 119 for the Construction Industry

Effective January 2013, Bill 119 will make it an offence under the WSIA to hire a contractor to perform construction work without a valid Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clearance certificate being in place. This presentation will talk about how employers who hire a construction contractor without a clearance certificate could be liable for the contractor’s unpaid premiums and prosecuted. In fact, individuals could be fined up to $25,000 and/or imprisoned for up to six months.

Starting in 2013, Bill 119 will also require independent operators and partners who have no employees to register with the WSIB, and have clearance certificates in place in order to do construction work. We will thoroughly explain Bill 119’s impact to employers, talk about the proper procedures to avoid penalties, and also take any questions.
