The Ottawa Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 Awards is the premier opportunity for the community to gather and recognize the incredible achievements of forty outstanding business people under the age of forty. In advance of the event, a call for nominations is issued that generates hundreds of entries. These nominations are judged by a committee of notable business leaders. The deliberations of the judges result in a list of Ottawa’s young business stars – people who are driving the city’s economic engine and setting an example in corporate and philanthropic circles. The awards gala includes a cocktail reception, a five-course dinner and a dessert reception that allows guests to network.
Launched ten years ago, Ottawa Business Journal’s CEO of the Year Award recognizes the quality of executive talent in Ottawa. The awards gala includes a cocktail reception, a five-course dinner and a dessert reception that allows guests to network and personally congratulate the CEO of the Year. Candidates are judged by an independent committee in four categories: corporate performance, leadership and vision, competitiveness and innovation and community involvement. In addition to being an outstanding social and networking event, a portion of the proceeds from each gala benefits the recipient’s preferred charity.
The Employees’ Choice Awards honour those organizations within Canada's National Capital Region that recognize employees as their greatest asset. These are organizations that work with imagination and conviction to create organizational value and business results through their policies and best practices in human resource management. The recipients of the award will be selected by a committee based on the participating organizations' employee opinion survey scores and employee comments.
The OBJ Networking Golf Tournament attracts VIPs in the city’s business community. This event will be designed to cater to business decision-makers, by encouraging golfers to mix with other groups to facilitate networking. Golfers will be offered complimentary buffet breakfast and lunch, as well as beverages and snacks on the course.
The Mayor's Breakfast Series has become an important forum on issues that are vital to Ottawa's health and prosperity. It seeks to capitalize on the tremendous interest in city hall and Mayor O'Brien's stated goal of "rethinking city hall." Combined with critical issues such as transportation, economic development and the environment, the breakfast series will appeal to business leaders who are looking to network and stay informed. The breakfast is held typically once a month at Ottawa City Hall and includes a buffet breakfast followed by a presentation in council chambers by a high-profile business or political leader. At every breakfast Mayor O'Brien also updates attendees on recent city hall decisions and issues.
The ultimate conference for education, information and inspiration, the Ottawa Business Summit provides a chance to absorb the ideas of exciting innovators and business gurus and explore the issues defining business. The City of Ottawa, CAFE and Ottawa Business Journal have combined their efforts to create a powerful one day event that will equip business owners with the tools that can be implemented in business the very next day. Throughout the day there will be opportunities to connect with peers, mentors, colleagues and clients. The Ottawa Business Summit is specifically designed for business managers, owners, professionals and executives who are eager to learn from Canadian business experts and explore ways to strengthen their own businesses.
