Each fall, the business community in Ottawa gathers to celebrate excellence in business leadership and honour a chief executive whose actions have greatly impacted on the business environment in Ottawa and the community in general.

The CEO of the Year award is based on five criteria: corporate performance, leadership and vision, competitiveness and innovation, community involvement and timeliness. The recipient will be selected by a committee co-chaired by OBJ publisher Michael Curran and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Erin Kelly.

Last year, the Ottawa Business Journal and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce formally partnered to present the 2011 CEO of the Year at the Ottawa Business Achievement Awards, on December 1, 2011.

The Ottawa Business Achievement Awards were created to celebrate Ottawa’s history of innovative, ethical and profitable business. Launched in 1993, the Ottawa Business Achievement Awards recognize innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that are at the heart of business in Ottawa.

With the exception of the CEO of the Year, Business Achievement Award recipients are chosen from nominated companies, and each year, hundreds of companies are nominated for their contributions to Ottawa’s success.

Companies from all sectors are honoured. Recipients are linked by their innovation, drive, creativity and their passion for doing business in Ottawa. Over 500 awards have been presented so far, in the proud presence of peers and senior political leaders representing Ottawa.
