The awards, which are sponsored by the Women's Business Network and will be given out at a gala on April 29 at the Hampton Inn, has named nine women from across the city as finalists in the professional, entrepreneur and corporate categories.
"The Businesswoman of the Year awards are absolutely vital to the continued empowerment of businesswomen in the National capital Region," said the network's president Sue Smarkala in a statement. "We look forward to this year's prestigious event to highlight the accomplishments of these amazing women and to officially announce this years' category winners."
The finalists are:
Professional Businesswoman of the Year:
- Mamta Gautam, president, PEAK MD
- Brenda Hollingsworth, partner, Auger Hollingsworth
- Tracey L. Pagé, principal, Collins Barrow Ottawa LLP
Entrepreneur Businesswoman of the Year:
- Mia Hempy, president and CEO, CTE Solutions Inc.
- Elaine Nadeau, president and art director, AN Design Communications
- Carley Schelck, proprietor and culinary events director, the urban element
Corporate Businesswoman of the Year:
- Debra Armstrong, president, MBNA Canada Bank
- Monica Channa, executive director of operations, Akran Marketing
- Erin Crowe, executive vice-president, CFO and alternate governor, Senators Sports & Entertainment
Past winners of the awards, which were first presented in 1983, include Julie Tubman of Tubman Funeral Homes, Mackay Street Epicuria co-owner and co-founder Heather Maclachlan, Rogers Communications regional president Robin McIntyre, and Marnie Bennett, broker at Keller Williams Ottawa Realty and owner of Bennett Real Estate Professionals.
