The company will install its PowerHawk multi-circuit meters within the school's Jock Turcot University Centre building, it said in a release. Triacta said the meters will help the university monitor power used by kitchen appliances, exhaust fans, air circulation units, freight and passenger elevators, lighting and wall outlets.
Triacta added that its meters can integrate with other systems, meaning they will also monitor gas consumption, energy used by the building's HVAC system and water consumption.
“By deploying PowerHawks strategically on our campus… we can reduce our costs by enabling those directly responsible for energy consumption to be aware of the costs of their actions. We can also identify degrading equipment and inappropriate ratcheting of building system settings,” said Pierre De Gagné, assistant director of Physical Resources Services at the University of Ottawa, in a release.
The Ontario government has made it a goal to put smart meters in every home and small business in the province, according to smartmetersontario.ca.
Triacta has also signed agreements with the University of Toronto, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Rainbow District School Board in Sudbury, Ontario and the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
