AMC sells Kanata location to Empire Theatres

AMC Entertainment Inc. is selling its Kanata movie theatre and five other locations to focus on the United States market.

The Kanata location and another one in Whitby (near Toronto) will be sold to Empire Theatres, a Canadian movie theatre company with 51 other locations.

Cineplex Entertainment will purchase AMC Yonge & Dundas 24, AMC Winston Churchill 24 and AMC Courtney Park 16 (all in Toronto area) and AMC Forum 22 (in Montreal.)

The purchase price for these properties was not disclosed. The transaction will be finalized in the next few weeks.

AMC has two remaining theatres in Canada, and the company says it will "continue to explore options" for AMC Interchange 30 and AMC Kennedy Commons 24.
