NCC chief executive Marie Lemay will become the associate deputy-minister of infrastructure next month. The move was announced by the federal government, along with five other appointments, on Friday afternoon.
An engineer by training, Ms. Lemay took the helm of the National Capital Commission in 2008 and was previously CEO of the Canada Council of Professional Engineers.
She recently clashed with Ottawa city councillors over the routing of the future phase of Ottawa's light-rail line. The city is interested in running trains along the Ottawa River Parkway, which is controlled by the NCC. The federal agency has repeatedly stated that it is unwilling to consider that possibility.
Under Ms. Lemay's watch, the NCC has attempted to garner greater private-sector support for its events, such as Winterlude.
