The Ontario College Faculty has reached a tentative agreement with its employer, including a two-year wage freeze, just days before the school year begins.

This means classes will start on schedule next week at Algonquin College and La Cité collégiale.

The agreement with the Colleges Employer Council will grant part-time, or “partial-load,” faculty greater job security, and excludes previous management proposals including an increased reliance on temporary staff while reducing the presence of full-time instructors.

“We have reached a reasonable agreement, and have done what it takes to make sure that our students’ school year will start on time and without the threat of a lock-out or an imposition of terms,” stated college faculty bargaining co-chair Ted Montgomery in a release from the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

Pending ratification, the new two-year contract will last from Sept. 1 2012 to Aug. 31 2014.

OPSEU represents more than 10,000 faculty members at colleges across Ontario including counsellors, instructors, professors and librarians.

Why are we not surprised at this type of extortion. We have seen it all before with CPC.. Job security.. wake up, there is no such thing. Limiting the use of temporary help. Again it is not up to those teachers as to who gets a job it is up to the management. This is yet another organization that needs to be put in it's place. Draw a line and those who wish to work cross the line. Those who do not stay where you are and collect your slip. That temporary person that needs a permanent job; is now permanent.
