Ottawa's hiring prospects for the fourth quarter are much dimmer than that of last year's, according to survey results released by Manpower.

About 11 per cent of surveyed employers in Ottawa intend to hire before the end of December, which is more than halved from last year's 23 per cent.

Also, 15 per cent of employers expect they will have cutbacks, compared with last year's eight per cent.

The local number of employers surveyed is not released. Across the country, when speaking with 1,900 employers, 16 per cent surveyed said they plan to add to their workforce. About seven per cent said they will cut back.

Surveyed employers are asked if they will hire, lay off or maintain their workforce, but are not asked why they make these choices.

Milwaukee-based Manpower does outplacements and workplace training. It has thousands of staff employees in 80 countries.
