The popular CBC television show Dragons’ Den, which sees everyday entrepreneurs pitch their products in an effort to get funding from wealthy investors, will be returning to Ottawa for another round of auditions this month.

Topics :
Ottawa Marriott Hotel , Mistura Beauty Solutions , Ottawa

Business hopefuls will be given five minutes to pitch their business idea at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel on Feb. 9 to the show’s producers.

They’ll then be able to go on the program to pitch their idea to the investors, whom the show refers to as “dragons,” if they’re able to first convince the producers.

A few Ottawa entrepreneurs have appeared on the show in the past.

Local technology firm Impakt Protective was on the show last November and managed to raise a $350,000 investment for its sports helmet technology.

Andi Marcus, who founded local cosmetics firm Mistura Beauty Solutions in 2008, also ended up receiving interest from one of the investors.

Neither were able to sort out all the details to reach formal agreements off-air, but both cited the publicity that came with appearing on the program as playing a major role in attracting funding from elsewhere.

Separately, one of the dragons from the CBC show - David Chilton - will be one of keynote speakers at the Ottawa Business Summit, which will be held on Feb. 20 at Algonquin College
