The Athletic Club plans to add to its Ottawa locations with the planned construction of a new complex on a vacant lot in south Nepean.
The company has submitted plans to the city for a 37,500-square foot building that would occupy a vacant lot at the northeast corner of Strandherd and Crestway drives, near Woodroffe Avenue. There would also be surface parking for 384 cars.
Building on the property would require a rezoning to “recognize an athletic and recreational facility as a permitted use,” according to documents Paquette Planning Associates Ltd. filed to the city on behalf of the Athletic Club.
The documents have been posted on the city’s development application website and a comment period is in progress.
In January, development records showed that the Athletic Club planned a $14 million gym in Kanata, with construction commencing this spring. It also has locations in Orleans and the Train Yards.
The company first entered Ottawa in 2010 and said at the time that it planned five local developments, although it did not give a firm timeline for construction.
