Thirteen per cent of Ottawa employers intend to make cutbacks this fall, according to a new survey by human resource consultants Manpower.
The company’s employment outlook found that only eight per cent of local employers intend to hire during the October to December period, while 77 per cent expect their staffing needs to remain the same.
The construction industry is expected to see the strongest employment gains, according to Manpower, with growth in non-residential construction offsetting slowing demand on the residential side. The survey also found that companies are increasingly looking to hire temporary and contract workers, rather than full-time staff.
Overall, Ottawa’s outlook is weaker than the Ontario average, adjusted for seasonal variations.
