Invest Ottawa has picked eight companies to join the winter session of its GrindSpaceXL program, the economic development agency announced on Tuesday.

Over 40 startups applied to participate in the four-month accelerator program, which provides mentoring and office space in an effort to get companies ready for investment.
Joining the program will be: Clear Pod, which has developed an environmentally-friendly water treatment system for septic tanks; BankMine, which is developing financial management software; Fast2eat, maker of an online ordering system for food courts; Figure of Eight, developers of medical billing software; PrepYourData, which is developing a software tool to clean-up datasets to make it easier to plug them into spreadsheets and analytics programs; SimpleBI, developers of a cloud-based business intelligence program; Travelabulous, a travel startup; and Zamani Wireless Solutions, which is developing a fall-detection system for seniors based on RFID technology.
This is the fourth cohort at GrindSpaceXL.
