Health Canada has approved the licence for Tweed Marijuana Inc.’s recently acquired greenhouse facility in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the company announced Monday.
The licence was issued to Prime 1 Construction Services Corp., who will run the facility, known as Park Lane Farms, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tweed (TSXV: TWD).
Park Lane Farms will now be allowed to begin growing product in about 10 per cent of the 350,000-square-foot facility. While it seeds its first crop there, it will continue expanding its growing area under the terms of the licence issued Friday.
Tweed expects to eventually be able to produce up to 45 million grams of marijuana per year from Park Lane Farms.
"Tweed is now the first geographically diversified, multi-licensed producer in Canada and will seek to accelerate production from this leadership position," said Tweed chairman and co-founder Bruce Linton in a statement.
The company expects its first harvest in the fourth quarter of 2014.
