In a move it calls a “reconfirmation of the company’s long-term commitment to the National Capital Region and surrounding municipalities,” funeral home operators Hulse, Playfair & McGarry have acquired Daniels Funeral Chapel Inc. in Winchester.

The transaction became official at the beginning of December and chief operating officer Patrick McGarry said the negotiations were similar to when the company expanded to Kemptville and Spencerville.

“The … owners wanted to make sure their community would continue to be served with personal and professional service,” Mr. McGarry said in a statement. “We are grateful to have been approached by the Daniels’ and thankful to have a dedicated team of professionals who serve each and every family with the care and compassion expected of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.”

The Winchester funeral home will now be known as Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, Daniels Chapel, and former owners Jim and Mona Daniels will continue to work with the new owners.

The acquisition comes as Hulse, Playfair & McGarry marks 90 years in business.

“At a time when many locally owned funeral service providers are selling to larger corporations we are delighted to be expanding our operations,” Mr. McGarry said.
