If full council also gives its support, it would allow the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. to issue a request for proposals this fall inviting proponents to submit bids.
Once the RFP process is completed and a winning bidder is selected, the public would have the opportunity to provide more feedback at a future city committee meeting in 2013.
The city would technically still have the final say on the location of any casino, as council holds the final approval on zoning for a gaming facility.
Ottawa Tourism and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce have both previously indicated their support for a new gaming facility.
City council is expected to discuss the matter next week.
