Short stretch of road to be converted to rail

A short strip of Wellington Street will be converted to a rail line.

With the Ottawa's preferred light-rail builder expected to be revealed next week, city staff are taking steps to close a short stretch of Wellington Street so it can be converted to a rail line.

The roadway in question is just west of Bronson Avenue, between Commissioner and Brickhill streets and hits a dead end at the Transitway LeBreton Flats station. A city-owned gravel parking lot is located to the south.

Tour buses are frequently seen parked on the little-used road during summer months.

Separately, the city appears to have removed the extensive media library of artistic renderings of proposed stations as well as maps from its Ottawa Light Rail website. It says an “online showcase” will be published once the recommended construction consortium is revealed on Dec. 5.
