City council’s planning committee has approved a development application from the Morley Hoppner Group to build a 17-storey residential tower at 12 Stirling Ave. in Hintonburg.

Artist's conception of the new proposal from Tega Homes for Barrhaven.

The site is home to a former school that was used as the Odawa Native Friendship Centre.

The development would also see the construction of four townhouses and the conversion of the former school into lofts.

The proposal still has to be approved by council.

Barrhaven highrises get go-ahead

The committee also approved an application from Tega Homes to build two mixed-use highrises in Barrhaven. The first phase of the development, at 1034 McGarry Terrace, would consist of a single, three-tower building on a two-storey podium. The towers would be three, eight and 16 storeys.

Phase two, which would have the street address of 1117 Longfields Drive, would consist of two towers – one eight storeys high, the other 12 storeys – on a two-storey podium.
