Bernie Ashe, Alice Popovici and Karen Hogan among Ottawa businesspeople accepting new positions.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP has appointed two new lawyers to the firm. Alice Popovici joins BLG from Phillips Friedman Kotler LLP, while Karen Hogan comes to the company from Gowlings. Additionally, BLG has promoted associates Jennifer Raoul and Hafeez Rupani to partners in the firm.

 

Everton Resources Inc. has appointed Salvador Brouwer as an independent director. Mr. Brouwer has significant exploration experience in the Dominican Republic and spent 30 years working for Falconbridge in Canada and the Americas.

 

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group has appointed Bernie Ashe as CEO. Mr. Ashe will oversee all facets of OSEG’s operations, including sports franchises, entertainment business and Lansdowne Park operations. Prior to joining OSEG, Mr. Ashe served as CEO of KOTT Group.

 

 

HATS OFF

 

Weddings InStyle was selected as a winner of the WeddingWire Bride’s Choice Awards 2013 for the third year in a row.

 

The General Contractors Association of Ottawa handed out its project awards, which are given out every two years, at its annual general meeting. The Award of Excellence for projects under $15 million went to Tofcon Construction Inc. for its Centrepointe Theatre expansion project. The runner up, M.P. Lundy (Ontario) Ltd., received an award of merit for its Canadian Aviation and Space Museum renovation and addition project. The Award of Excellence for projects over $15 million was given to PCL Constructors Canada Inc. for the Ottawa Convention Centre redevelopment project. The Don Chutter Meritorious Achievement Award was given to EllisDon Corp. for the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence project.

 

Catherine and Jerome Pulcine, owners of the Ottawa Decorating Den franchise, achieved Chairman’s Circle status for being one of the top ten franchises in sales in 2012.

 

The Orleans Chamber of Commerce recently held its Business Excellence Awards. Among the recipients are Paul Rushforth Real Estate, which was named large business of the year, Cuisine & Passion, which was named small business of the year, and Ben Lalonde of Orleans Autopro, who was named businessperson of the year.
