QNX Software Systems, Mitel and Wind Works among local companies announcing new agreements.
Mitel is expanding its partnership with Pennsylvania-based Black Box Corp. The new agreement will see Black Box market, sell and support an expanded line of Mitel’s cloud-based communications solutions across the United States. According to Mitel, the two companies’ joint business has grown by more than 50 per cent over the past year.
Mitel has also signed an agreement with RackForce Networks to jointly offer “cloud based communications and collaboration services”, Mitel said in a press release issued last week. The agreement allows RackForce to give the services (which are powered by Mitel) to its own customers, as well as a white-label cloud solution to its clients that can be branded and marketed by buyers as their own. RackForce, the largest VMWare service provider partner in the country, already has similar agreements in place with other resellers, the company stated. The service will be available Sept. 1. Financial details were not disclosed.
QNX Software Systems, an Ottawa-based subsidiary of BlackBerry, will provide the platform for Switzerland-based Garmin International’s new line of in-car infotainment systems. Garmin’s K2 platform, which will be sold to automotive manufacturers, will include smartphone integration and provides both navigation and car diagnostic functions as well as streaming media.
Wind Works Power Corp. has closed a sale on a 75-per-cent stake in four wind energy projects to Renewable Energy Developers (RED) Inc. The projects represent 50 megawatts of capacity contracted with the Ontario Power Authority under the feed-in-tariff program. RED plans to develop these projects and own them with an undisclosed financial partner. Construction will begin in 2014, with total spending expected at $150 million after construction is finished. RED is supposed to send Wind Works $56,000 at closing, an additional $1.5 million that could be altered depending on milestones and accounting, and contingency payments of $10 million that are tied to performance and milestones.
