BDO Canada LLP recently added four accountants to its Ottawa St-Laurent Office. Michelle Martin, CPA, CA, CPA (California) (Associate), David Harmer, CPA, CGA (Tax Manager); Louise Leduc (Senior Accounting Technician); and Percy Chohan (Intermediate Staff Accountant) had been working for the Michelle Martin CA Professional Corporation, which has since joined BDO. Michelle and her team will join the private-sector group, bringing expertise in both private enterprises and US Tax.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP recently welcomed Jeffrey Coghlan to the firm as associate. Called to the bar in 2009, Mr. Coghlan will practise Intellectual Property, Patents, and Information Technology law. The firm also recently promoted 13 lawyers to partner, including four in Ottawa: Jill Alexander (Insurance and tort liability), Beverley Moore (intellectual property), Nicole M. St.Louis (commercial real estate), and Mark F. Vickers (intellectual property).

Ottawa architect Allan Teramura was recently named the 77th President of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Marco La Vecchia recently joined TUC as vice-president of sales. Mr. La Vecchia was most recently vice-president of channel sales for AVG, heading up its Kanata office. Mr. La Vecchia will lead TUC’s North American sales strategy, tasked with building and managing the direct and channel sales team targeting IT service organizations that serve small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Former Ottawa Rough Rider Pat Stoqua was recently appointed senior development officer for Ravens Football in the Department of University Advancement. Mr. Stoqua comes to Carleton after 35 years with the Lowe Martin Group where he was most recently a senior account manager. In his new role at Carleton, Mr. Stoqua will be focused on raising support for Ravens Football by engaging with alumni, donors and friends of the program.

Harley Finkelstein was recently promoted to the position of chief operating officer at Shopify. Mr. Finkelstein, who had been chief platform officer will now be taking on an even larger role in deepening relationships with Shopify’s merchants, partners and the public.

Ottawa’s Atelier was recently named one of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants of 2015 by OpenTable, a provider of online restaurant reservations

Ottawa-based Gibson Product Design recently partnered with DeepSpar Data Recovery Systems to win an Innovation Award in the computer peripherals category at the recent Consumer Electronics Show. This is the tenth year in a row a Gibson client has won an Innovation Award at the show.

wintranslation, an Ottawa-based translation firm was recently awarded “Certified Women’s Business Enterprise” status through WEConnect International, an organization that helps majority women owned/operated businesses succeed in global value chains.
