Chartwell Retirement Residences, Halogen Software and Ackroo all announced deals recently.

Chartwell Retirement Residences recently announced it had acquired the Duke of Devonshire Retirement Residence for $63.6 million.

The National Research Council recently signed a letter of intent with the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology to promote and fund innovation-driven collaborations.

Northern Micro recently signed on as the official information technology partner of Ottawa 2017. The company is providing office technology and business expertise to support the Ottawa 2017 Bureau.

Halogen Software recently announced a strategic partnership with Jobvite that will see Halogen integrate the Jobvite platform in its TalentSpace suite.

Ackroo announced recently it had taken steps to boost its e-commerce and mobile offerings with the acquisition of OnTab’s e-commerce and mobile payments software platform. With the deal, OnTab founder Behzad Malek becomes an Ackroo consultant to help integrate OnTab’s assets into Ackroo’s existing offerings.

The Ontario Centres of Excellence recently announced funding for two local early-stage companies. OCE has funded software compression firm Falconglobe and sensor network provider Maple Microsystems with both companies receiving $125,000.

Interset announced recently it had partnered with cybersecurity firm FireEye in a technology partnership and integration to derail high-risk attacks in the enterprise space. The integration will deliver unprecedented insight into how enterprises are being attacked, what stage the attack is in, and the actions needed to stop an attack before it compromises data.

Telesat announced recently it has signed a multi-year contract with Panasonic Avionics Corporation that would see that company use Telesat satellite capacity in the Mediterranean, Europe and the Middle East.

WiLAN recently announced a partnership with Dominion Harbor Group that will see DHG acquire certain WiLAN patents. The initial portfolio, consisting of fewer than 100 patent families, will be managed by DHG's affiliate, the Monument Bank of Intellectual Property, for investment in promising young startup companies.

Flexiworld Innovations, a wholly-owned subsidiary of WiLAN announced recently it had acquired a portfolio of patents relating to wireless communication with peripheral and mobile devices, including applications in Voice over IP (VoIP).

Tweed Marijuana recently announced a deal with hip hop artist Snoop Dogg that will see the Smiths Falls-based company granted exclusive rights to use certain content and brands owned by the rapper's company, LBC Holdings. Snoop Dogg, has made a number of investments recently in the marijuana business, including launching his own cannabis line, Leafs by Snoop, in Colorado last November. This is his first foray into the Canadian cannabis industry.
