The Canadian Forces Exchange System, or CANEX, outlet will sell brand-name furniture, appliances and electronics, among other goods.
It will also be the only official supplier of “Support our Troops” merchandise, CANEX president Gerry Mahon said in a statement.
The proceeds from the store will finance social and recreational programs that benefit military personnel and their families.
The new outlet is located on Labelle Street, near the St. Laurent Shopping Centre. It is part of a complex purchased last December by a branch of the Canadian Forces known as “non-public property,” which operates like a trust to support the morale, welfare, community and recreation programs for military personnel and their families.
Great-West Life and London Life sold the three-building, 285,000-square-foot campus for $56.8 million.
The 42 CANEX stores and 200 concessions across Canada include retail outlets and grocery stores and generated more than $4.5 million for those support programs last year.
