Michaels opening two new Ottawa stores

Arts and crafts speciality retailer Michaels (NYSE:MIK) says it will open two new Ottawa stores later this month as part of the Texas-based company’s largest single-month Canadian expansion.

Along with the two new local stores – one of which will be in Kanata – Michaels is opening new locations in Vancouver, Toronto and New Minas, N.S.

“Canada is a key market for Michaels,” said Michaels Canada president Tom Making in a statement.

Michaels first entered Canada in 1993 with a store in Oakville, Ont. It currently has 74 stores in nine provinces. The company’s website lists four Ottawa locations, including one coming soon to the Trainyards retail centre.
