Greg Farrell, who has been the chief financial officer since 2007, was announced as the new president Friday.
He joined Giant Tiger in 2000 as director of finance and accounting and was also vice-president of accounting and finance.
"Greg (previously) assumed responsibility for other elements of the business beyond finance, and has gained the trust and respect of our office, warehouse and store teams," stated CEO Andy Gross, a past president and COO himself.
"This is another exciting step in our progress of strengthening our senior executive team and structure to effectively and profitably lead Giant Tiger into the future."
From its start in the ByWard Market in 1961, the company has now grown to 207 locations across the country with more than 7,000 employees. It is the largest Canadian-owned discount chain.
