The city stated it has worked the construction schedule to the stadium, which is being prepared for AA baseball, in such a way that the Intercounty Baseball League team can use the facility for the next few months.
This is subject to a lease renewal, for which the terms are still under negotiation, the city stated. The Fat Cats' lease was set to expire this month.
Meanwhile, the city plans to upgrade and use the stadium for AA baseball in 2013, pending an agreement in principle with a franchise represented by Beacon Sports Capital Partners.
With planned upgrades to the facility in the works, this means it is likely that the Fat Cats would need alternate arrangements if the team made it to the post-season. The city added it is discussing options with management.
After making the AA announcement in February under proposed terms, the city indicated late Thursday that the deal is not final.
"The city continues discussions with Beacon Sports Capital Partners in the hope of attracting a major-league affiliated AA baseball team to Ottawa," a release stated.
"The city remains cautiously optimistic that an agreement can be concluded with Beacon Sports Capital Partners in the coming months."
