The Mayfair Theatre, popular for showing art house and international movies at its original location on Bank Street in Old Ottawa South, first opened its doors on Centrum Boulevard in Orleans in December 2011.
However, the business struggled to adapt to a part of town that didn’t have the same amount of nightly activity as the downtown location.
Media reports last May said the theatre was at risk of closing its doors by the summer if attendance failed to increase.
The theatre closed its doors Wednesday morning, according to a post on the Orleans portion of the Mayfair’s website.
“This unfortunate news comes with great sadness,” the post said. “Thank you to our members for your support.”
