Effective June 23, Bruce Harvey will be heading home from Calgary, where he had been leading his own production company.

Mr. Harvey, whose official title will be head of Invest Ottawa’s Film Office, will be tasked with bringing new film and television productions to the region as well as expanding business opportunities for local producers.

“As an international film and television producer, Bruce Harvey has developed contacts and relationships with producers all over the world,” Invest Ottawa CEO Bruce Lazenby said in a statement. “In his new post at Invest Ottawa, he’ll be applying his wealth of expertise and using those valuable contacts to grow film and TV production opportunities here in the capital.”

Mr. Harvey’s Calgary company, Illusions Entertainment Corp., was set up in 1990 and worked with partners in Italy, Spain, Germany, England, France and the United States to produce and co-produce more than 15 film and television projects.

But now, Mr. Harvey is excited to come home.

“As a location, Ottawa is hard to beat,” he said in a statement. “It can be a big city like New York, a cozy town in New England, a cornfield in Kansas, or a suburb of just about anywhere. It’s clean, safe and affordable.”

Mr. Lazenby said there were 990 filming days in the city last year. He said production crews spent $21.5 million inside the city and another $17.8 million just outside the city.
