Ottawa’s Macdonald-Cartier International Airport has ranked eighth on the Cheapflights.ca Canadian Airport Affordability Index, up five spots from last year.
The index ranks the 20 most popular airports serving Canadians, including both Canadian airports and American border airports.
However the rankings only include flights booked by Cheapflights users to what the site calls “top destinations” during the month of August.
According to the index, the average airfare (including taxes) travelers paid at the Ottawa airport was $513. That’s down from $569 last year.
Bellingham International in Washington State came first, with Kelowna in British Columbia coming in second.
Ottawa ranked higher than most major cities in Canada, beating out Montreal, which ranked 13, and Toronto, which ranked 17.
Travelers paid the most in St John’s Newfoundland, according to the index, with an average price of $632.
