In late December, NHL chief operating officer John Collins told the Ottawa Sun that the Senators will get an outdoor game.

However Brian Morris, the director of communications for the Senators, told OBJ on Friday that the league has said it wants to have an outdoor game in Ottawa but there are still no formal plans for the event.

The Senators have been seeking to host a Heritage Classic outdoor game for over a year. The mayor’s office has said it supports having an outdoor game in 2017 as part of the city’s celebrations for the 150th anniversary of confederation.

The NHL is holding six outdoor games this season. That includes one in Vancouver, where the Senators will be the visiting team.
