Ottawa has been named the best large city in Ontario for festivals by a non-profit dedicated to promoting those events in the province.
Festivals and Events Ontario gave the city its “Best Festival City” award for cities over 200,000 people.
This is the first time the award has been given out.
“Ottawa is blessed with a great number of annual festivals and events, big and small,” said Mayor Jim Watson in a statement.
“Each one enhances the recreation, arts and cultural experience for our residents and visitors, while at the same time contributing to the growth and development of our economy.”
The FEO considered factors including municipal support for festivals, private sector support and the way the city leverages the “community capital” created.
