The Don Blakslee Hotelier of the Year Award is going to Franco Falcucci, general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East and the former manager of the attached Hampton Inn and Conference Centre, which share the same ownership.
The award goes to a hotel general manager who not only runs their business well but who is also active in the city’s tourism industry and the community more broadly, said Dick Brown, president of the OGHA.
Mr. Falcucci “has been instrumental in developing the Hampton Inn and Conference Centre,” along with being very involved in the community, said Mr. Brown.
The organization is also honouring Ed and Lola Macies with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
The two have managed the Best Western Plus Macies Hotel on Carling Ave. for 55 years, said Mr. Brown, but have now sold the property and plan to retire at the end of the month.
Mr. Macies was also one of the founders of the Tulip Festival and a predecessor organization to the OGHA.
