After an extensive search, the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association has announced Steve Ball will take over as president on July 1.

Mr. Ball is replacing Dick Brown, who is retiring this month after 13 years in the position.

The OGHA hired an outside executive search firm to help fill the position, but in the end, didn’t have to go far to find the right candidate.

Mr. Ball was once the publisher of Where magazine, which publishes information on shopping, dining, cultural attractions and entertainment in cities across North America. He worked closely with OGHA as the first provider of the in-room visitor information magazine for member hotels. He was also a member of Ottawa Tourism and most recently headed the publishing division of the Canadian Medical Association.

Mr. Ball has already begun his stint at the association. For the month of June, he is the president designate, working with Mr. Brown as the outgoing president helps with his successor’s orientation and introduction to local and provincial tourism partners.

OGHA members as well as the rest of the Ottawa business community will have the opportunity to send Mr. Brown off in style with a tribute dinner June 25.

Organizations: Where magazine, Ottawa Tourism, Canadian Medical Association
