Operated by the city, the portal showcases more than 2,000 cultural resources in the community.
Mr. Watson said the portal will be a valuable tool ahead of Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
“Anyone who plans to celebrate in Ottawa during 2017 will be able to explore the breadth and scope of our cultural treasures as they plan their vacations, conferences and events, and to incorporate our cultural assets into their schedules,” he said in a statement.
Coun. Mark Taylor, chair of the city’s community and protective services committee, said the portal is a “living document that will be frequently updated and expanded.”
A tab on the portal allows the public to post their suggestions for additions or revisions to the featured assets.
The city received just under $65,000 from the province to create the portal on ottawa.ca.
