The Carleton University third-year business law student just netted a $5,000 prize from the annual Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards held Tuesday at the university.
"Funding was a major issue for me starting up, so this competition has been helping me along the way, " he says.
So far he's poured in $1,000 of his own funds into starting up GetMovers, an online listing of reliable moving companies for others to take advantage of.
In fact, this is his second company that has to do with moving - his other, Neighbourhood Movers, provides sweat equity in a literal sense for this new venture.
"Basically everything's ready; I can start on any given day, " Mr. Schurter adds.
One of the past winners is Justin Shimoon, who pitched an idea about a decade ago that was the genesis of his company Sitebrand. He served as a judge this year.
Mr. Schurter will go on to the national level of the competition later this month.
