The city issued 715 permits last month – nine per cent fewer than October 2011 – but the total value added up to $197.2 million. That’s a 17-per-cent jump from last year’s $168.3 million.
Leading the list were two downtown condominium projects for Claridge Homes. The first was a permit valued at $25 million to build the superstructure of its Tribeca condominiums, a 28-storey, 247-unit apartment building on Metcalfe Street. The second was a $22-million permit to build the 28-storey Claridge Tower 3 on Rideau Street.
Also near the top of the list was a $20-million permit to refit the former Bank of Montreal on Wellington Street to create a place of assembly for the House of Commons.
Skywell Homes Ltd. filed for 10 permits valued at $1.65 million each to construct a block of three-storey rowhouses on Stonehurst Avenue.
