The city has taken the first step towards redeveloping the Arts Court property by issuing a call for interested developers to tackle the project.

Council voted to go ahead with the $36.1-million redevelopment last Wednesday. The city is now seeking expressions of interest from developers to build an office tower, condos or a hotel above the expanded Arts Court at 60-70 Waller St.
The goal is to get feedback from potential builders before the request for proposals is issued, which is expected to happen this winter.
Located near the Rideau Centre, Arts Court is a city-run facility that includes the Ottawa Art Gallery and the SAW Gallery. It’s also home to other arts and culture organizations and a 130-seat theatre.
A private developer would buy the air rights to the tower. The city applied for a $9-million grant from the federal government to help fund the expansion project but was turned down.
The plans include an expansion of the Ottawa Art Gallery, a 250-seat screening room and space for the University of Ottawa theatre department.
