A Gatineau construction firm beat out three competitors to win a federal contract to construct new boilers to help heat more than 50 buildings in the National Capital Region.

Topics :
Ed Brunet Associates , National Research Council , E.S. Fox

Ed Brunet & Associates will install at least two new boilers and ancillary equipment at the National Research Council plant on Sussex Drive, according to federal solicitation documents.

The design-build work also includes removing existing equipment, the installation of distribution steam piping as well as chilled water lines.

Following a pre-qualification process, four companies were invited to submit formal bids: Aecon, Ed Brunet & Associates, E.S. Fox Ltd., and PCL Constructors Canada.

The federal government says the project is aimed at supplementing the Cliff central heating and cooling plant, located behind the Supreme Court. That facility was rocked by a fatal explosion in 2009.

PCL won a $15-million contract to temporarily repair the facility, as well as a second $18.7-million contract to construct an addition.

Work on the Sussex Drive project is expected to take up to 60 weeks.
