The contract, stated Public Works in a press release, was "competitively awarded" and will encompass engineering design services and preparing construction drawings. The design work should be finished in winter 2013, with three years of construction beginning that spring.
Friday's announcement comes about 10 days after the federal government announced it would contract out to perform major rehabilitation on the Macdonald-Cartier and Alexandra bridges, as well as Chaudière Crossing.
The budgeted amounts for the construction projects, which have yet to be released through competitive tender, were not disclosed. Start dates for the work ranged between 2012 and 2013.
