Mayor Jim Watson and Alta Vista Coun. Peter Hume, chair of the cityâs planning committee, announced the initiative Monday at City Hall.
âThe pilot project employs community engagement earlier in the process, before the development application is even officially made,â Mr. Hume said in a statement. âThis promising initiative makes the process more transparent, allowing earlier communication with the community and builds awareness of the planning process.â
The planning committee will get the results of the Capital ward project in a report next summer.
Other changes announced include more clarity on development street signs, the use of plain language on planning policy issues and a report template to make it easier to contact city planners.
