An Ottawa developer has finally won over municipal planners with a plan to build office towers across from the Bayview O-Train Station.

Booth Street

After opposing several past proposals, city staff are recommending councillors support DCR Phoenix’s proposal to construct three new buildings at 801 Albert St., just west of Booth Street.

The developer wants to construct a 32-storey and a 29-storey tower that would be connected by a six-story link, according to a report being tabled at the city’s planning committee meeting on Sept. 11.

A third building would be six storeys and contain “a range of commercial and retail uses."

The developer would pay to relocate a major storm sewer line, one of several underground pipes that criss-cross the property that makes developing the site a challenge.

The development would contain approximately 1.4 million square feet of space.

In 2010, city planners said the proposed design was “completely suburban” and would cut off the development from the surrounding neighbourhoods.Staff say the revised plan “facilitates a form of development that will allow for the advancement of the applicable policies and principles for mixed-use centres.”
