A developer is asking the city for permission to demolish three residential buildings close to Parkdale and Burnside avenues to make way for a 30-storey condo development.

A detached home at 71 Burnside Ave. and two six-unit apartment buildings, located at 111 and 115 Parkdale Ave., would be torn down to make way for the new development if the request is approved.

According to a “community heads up” released by the city’s planning department on Thursday, the demolition control must be approved before a building permit can be issued. The document did not say which developer is behind the project.

The condo tower would have 180 units. The height of that building would be within what’s allowed by the site’s existing zoning.

I think the time has come for a moratorium on Condos in Hintonburg / Mechanicsville. There are many lower income folks that will be replaced with nowhere to move to with a limited budget and in that area which these folks are familiar with. These up-rooting will cause great difficulties for the marginalized in our community in the long run.
