Ottawa-based Zarlink has launched its ZLE30320 reference design, which combines its IEEE 1588 timing-over-packet network synchronization technology with Freescale’s MPC8313 PowerQUICC communications processor chips.
“There is ramping demand for our timing-over-packet products and software, as carriers migrate to packet networks to efficiently and cost-effectively support new high-bandwidth smartphone applications,” said Louise Gaulin, product line director of Zarlink’s timing and synchronization products, in a statement. “With our (combined) technology, wireless operators can deploy packet networks to efficiently deliver new revenue-generating, data-intense smartphone applications and maintain service quality for traditional voice services.”
The jointly developed programmable device can be integrated directly onto developers’ motherboards, making it easier for customers to create new networking technology in support of the increasing need for bandwidth
