EION said it’s supplying backhaul connectivity for a new wide-area multi-lateration, or WAM, system that will provide fill-in surveillance coverage for the air traffic services provider.
“As a Canadian manufacturer, we are very proud that our wireless products have been selected for this critical safety application at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver,” said EION chief executive Kalai Kalaichelvan in a statement. "EION Wireless equipment is right now powering thousands of public safety and video surveillance applications around the world and we are pleased that our equipment is able to help athletes and their supporters arrive safely to their destination in Vancouver."
EION’s broadband wireless technology will extend Internet protocol circuits to help link the WAM system’s large number of remote, interconnected sensor sites – used to create a picture of the sky over a wide area instead of relying on one central antenna – and the radar controller.
NAV Canada said it selected EION’s solution due to its ability to withstand the extreme weather conditions in the British Columbia Coast Mountain Range, where the sensor sites are located.
