The announcement from the economic development agency group is expected to bring better accessibility for Ottawa companies looking to break into the market overseas.
Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei and Cisco all have large research and development hubs in Canada's capital as well as significant global presence, OCRI noted.
Other local companies that could benefit, OCRI stated, are DragonWave, Bridgewater Systems, Rogers Communications, SiGe Semiconductor, and Research in Motion -- as well as venture capital firms such as Wesley Clover and laboratories such as the Communications Research Centre.
“Ottawa has the critical mass of brainpower, education institutions, government R&D labs and entrepreneurial dynamism that makes it an ideal home for knowledge-based enterprises, particularly in the wireless industry,” stated Michael Darch, OCRI’s executive director of global marketing.
