Ottawa-based Bridgewater on Sunday said Etihad Etisalat’s Mobily has chosen and implemented Bridgewater Policy Controller for data traffic to manage mobile data communications growth for its 3G/high-speed packet access-based network.
The deal extends the two companies’ relationship, as Bridgewater’s technology is already used in Mobily’s WiMAX Wave 2 networks. Bridgewater now supports Mobily’s Wi-Fi, 3G and WiMAX offerings, and the technology is also ready to be upgraded to include support for long-term evolution, or LTE, networks.
“Increasingly, innovative operators such as Mobily want to leverage a common set of control plane solutions to serve multiple access networks,” said Bridgewater senior vice-president David Sharpley in a statement. “This, coupled with our vendor-neutral pedigree, provides Mobily with flexibility and a future-proof advantage as they transform their networks and introduce innovative new services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
Mobily, which has more than 18 million subscribers in total and more than 2.3 million customers using its high-volume mobile broadband bundles, announced its first deal with Bridgewater in February 2010.
The Middle East company is using Policy Controller to control, manage and measure subscriber usage of its mobile service offerings, allowing Mobily to make sure it is not overloading its networks and to bundle or upsell services according to customer usage.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a separate release, Bridgewater said it’s also signed up Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Juniper Networks as a global reseller for its complete portfolio of intelligent broadband control software.
Juniper will add Bridgewater technology including Policy Controller, Subscriber Data Broker and Home Subscriber Server to its own MobileNext open mobile core solution for 2G, 3G and LTE networks, Bridgewater’s release said.
Shares of Bridgewater were up 30 cents to $9.25 on the Toronto Stock Exchange at 12:19 p.m., an increase of 3.35 per cent.
