The company signed agreements with 40 different clients, totalling 79 projects, in fiscal 2010. In addition to being a bump up over fiscal 2009, Design 1st stated this shows a "significant positive trend" since fiscal 2007, when it signed on 21 different clients for 34 projects.

"We are seeing demand in Ottawa and other innovative centers to bring large numbers of new products into the marketplace," stated Kevin Bailey, Design 1st's president.

"Business teams see the value of hiring an expert design team to bring their products to market quickly, efficiently and at costs 40-per-cent lower than maintaining internal design teams."

Design 1st's past projects range from the We-Vibe sex toy to cinema projectors and water heater tanks. In a past interview with OBJ, Mr. Bailey said the company's differentiator is its use of advanced computer-assisted design software, along with social media and Web 2.0 tools.

Local clients for the privately held company include Mitel, C-COM Satellite Systems Inc., International Datacasting Corp. and BelAir Networks.
