A recent acquisition helped push an Ottawa-based division of local firm Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX:CTY) to its best quarter on record, the company said Wednesday.

The technology services seller consists of two divisions, the business and technology services division which is headquartered in Ottawa, and the systems engineering division which operates out of Saskatchewan.

"Revenues continued to grow in both divisions as we experienced robust demand in all of our services lines," stated president and CEO Ray Basler. "I am particularly pleased with the growth in our BTS division."

This quarter saw the completion of Calian's acquisition of Primacy Management Inc., a Burlington, Ont.-based company that operated 112 health clinics across the Loblaw Cos. Ltd. grocery chain.

Primacy's financial results for March were included in Calian's BTS division results, contributing to its record high. A breakdown of revenues by division is not provided in the financial statement.

Calian reported an overall 13-per-cent increase year-over-year in second-quarter profits to $3.7 million, up from $3.3 million in the same quarter last year.

Revenues were up by four percent year-over-year, at $61.6 million from $59.4 million.

"We are certainly encouraged by our achievements to date, which gives us added confidence in meeting our annual guidance numbers," stated Mr. Basler.

Those numbers are projected to be between $230 million and $250 million, with net earnings of $1.70 to $1.95 per share.

Calian employs more than 2,300 people in Canada, the United States and internationally, 300 of them in Ottawa, according to OBJ's 2011 Book of Lists.

The company provides business and technology services to the private and public sector in the health, operations and maintenance, IT services and training domains. It also designs, manufactures and maintains systems for the communications and defence sectors.

The Primacy acquisition will help Calian to evolve its health service line and to enhance the Calian brand in the healthcare marketplace, Mr. Basler stated.
