The space and satellite technology developer said Wednesday it has an agreement for up to eight more years with SNC-Lavalin Defence Programs Inc. (TSX:SNC), which took the lead on the team that designed and built the ships.
Both firms have a presence in Ottawa.
MDA provided integrated ship systems, and continues to provide operational support services on both coasts.
The 12 vessels assist the Royal Canadian Navy in coastal defence, with a primary mission of coastal surveillance.
But they also perform a wide variety of tasks including search and rescue, fisheries and environmental monitoring, disaster relief, mine countermeasures and scientific research.
"MDA has significant expertise in providing integrated ship systems and services. This contract extends our support of SNC-Lavalin and the navy for many years to come," said David Hargreaves, the vice-president responsible for the business.
MDA provides information solutions that capture and process data for business and government organizations worldwide.
